Don’t Set Your Minds On Worldly Behaviors

Shalom. In 1 Corinthians 10, it describes to us some behaviors that we should not set our hearts on and are referred to as being evil. Paul tells us that we need to look at our ancestors to learn from their experience on how to behave.

Paul warns us and reminds us some very important things not to do. In chapter 10, 1 Corinthians in verse 7, it tells us not to be idolaters. Paul warns us to remember from historical behavior and he’s reminding us not to be idolaters like some of them were in the past.

People sat down and ate and drank, indulged themselves in rivalry. Another behavior that he talks about is not to engage in sexual immorality. He reminds us of how in a single day, 23,000 people died because of their immoral behavior.

So we have number one, idolatry. Number two, sexual immorality. Then he goes on and talks about a third behavior and that one is not putting the Messiah to the test.

And some people were destroyed by snacks because of this. So he’s warning us and reminding us not to put our hearts on worldly behaviors, on worldly things and set our minds on this evil behavior of this world. He calls these things evil in verse 6. So we have idolatry, don’t engage in idolatry, don’t engage in sexual immorality and don’t put the Messiah to the test.

Then he goes on and he tells us about a fourth behavior which is don’t grumble. Is this now what many people do sometimes? He’s reminding us not to set our minds and our souls and our hearts on these evil behaviors. Later in the chapter, Paul tells us that with the help of Yeshua, we can flee these temptations and that there’s no temptation in which God does not open a door for us to flee.

He always provides a way out. And if we pray and ask God to help us, he will help us not to do any of these things that Paul is referring to in this chapter of 1 Corinthians 10. So let’s review these behaviors that Paul is warning us about.

Especially as believers, we should not be engaging in these behaviors. Don’t engage in idolatry, don’t engage in sexual immorality, don’t put the Messiah to the test and don’t grumble. Let’s not do any of these things.

Let’s remember that we have a different attitude of wanting to please the Messiah and change to walk in righteousness. Thank you and Shalom.
