The Foods That We Eat (transcribed)

Today I want to talk about the foods that we eat. Sometimes in our lives we eat certain foods because of the situation that we are in, sometimes we are not able to eat certain foods because of our health or sometimes we can’t eat certain types of foods because maybe we are trying to lose weight or gain weight or there’s something going on but most of the times it’s because there’s something going on with our bodies that is not working correctly. Now we are prevented from eating foods that we like, foods that we like very much.

It could be that a person may have a situation with their bodies like for example diabetes or high blood pressure or they might have some kind of disease as AIDS or maybe they have a problem with their thyroids. In this type of health situations in our bodies we are trying to live our bodies, live our lives with certain amount of foods because of our condition. So we are not able to eat all the foods that we want to eat, so we’re trying to find out in our own lives how to resolve the mystery of what we should and we should not be eating.

So a lot of the times we turn to books and try to find out some research that has to do with our own specific situation. So we turn and we start looking in YouTube, maybe Facebook, people’s commentaries, TVs, books written by professionals and books that are written by people that are doesn’t have a degree but they have been working in that field for a while, so they know something about it. And we’re trying to look at these different types and what do they say about managing or regulating the situation that we are in, the situation that we find ourselves in or the condition.

So we try to find out this different research of what to eat and not to eat with the discoveries and knowledge of men. We have to fully realize that these people whom we are looking for answers are merely men that have been trying to come up with a solution and they have done different varieties of research to look for an answer for people’s conditions and situations. People like doctors and therapists and in their research they have become very successful and some people believe that we should be eating a balanced meal, meaning a little bit of everything.

Others believe that we maybe should be eating every 30 minutes, every 15 minutes. Some people promote the kinetic diet or lifestyle that says that you should eat a little bit more fat, you should have a little bit more fat in your diet so it makes you feel full in case you’re losing weight or just to keep you healthy. Certain oils that you have to add to your diet and some people believe that you should be eating carbs and others believe that they should just be eating vegetables.

All these ideas and research are coming from people that we are looking to, they’re looking for solutions and a lot of times these individuals they have an agenda behind whatever it is that they’re trying to defend whether it’s the kinetic way of eating or whichever way that they’re saying that is very healthy for you to eat. Some of these diets or eating ways may work for our bodies and some of these diets might not, the ways of eating might not work for our bodies because it just doesn’t work for the situation or our health situation. Maybe some people cannot be eating lots of fats, they might not be beneficial for them for their condition or some people need to eat the oils and the fats depending on their condition and situation.

But in all these researches we want to really find out, really putting the knowledge of men aside, we want to find out what God says about the foods that we eat. What does he say about the foods that we can and we should not be eating? He gave us some directions, he gave us on the foods that we should be eating. So in the process of this learning what he says, because what he says is very important in our lives, we have to realize that we have to be listening to God, not what men are saying.

Men are trying to come up with healthier lifestyles for people, but they themselves, they don’t know, they themselves are researching, trying to find things out, discoveries. And when they do find a discovery that helps people, even that discovery comes from God, comes from the revelation that God gave them. So before we go into the list, I want to bring up a very important bible verses, some bible verses, but this very important bible verse that is in John 14, 15, that says that if you love me, you will keep my commandments.

Yeshua is saying that if we love him, we will keep his commandments. Now if we say that we love him and we say that we are believers in Yeshua and that we want to live the way that he lives, we want to walk the way and we want to be obedient to his commandments, if we are proclaiming that he’s our savior and that we love him, there’s nothing that we can do but to walk in the ways that he’s telling us to walk. Sometimes certain things come into our lives and say that we are, we might be saying, okay, so I walk in the ways of God, so I’m safe and I don’t need to be doing these things that God is telling me to do.

I don’t need to eat the certain foods that supposedly I’m supposed to be eating because I’m safe. I don’t have to do those things. We need to think about from the time of Adam and the fall of man, that the moment that the fall came, men have been dying every day and that the perfection that was there began to decompose and from that time, many degeneration diseases have arrived, not because God made these diseases, but it’s because of sin.

So a lot of times people want to blame God for their situation or their conditions, but this is something that’s been happening from generation to generation from the fall of man and a lot of times we are to blame for the conditions that we’re in because we’ve been eating foods that we shouldn’t be eating. So when we go to the doctors, they want to know about our family history, whether anyone in our family have had a heart attack or maybe an ulcer or even mental diseases. They’re trying to find out our family history because it plays a role from the generations and generations that from the fall of man of what is being happening with diseases.

Sometimes people get upset because they have this or that, but we have to think about our family history and we have to think about ourselves. What is it that we’re doing? What were we eating when we were younger that maybe now after so many years is coming out? So before we go into this list, this is a Bible verse, another Bible verse that we want to think about. We want to look at Mark 7 19 which says, and he is talking about food when we’re talking, when we’re looking at this Bible verse, that it says the food that it does not go into his heart but into his stomach and it passes out into the latrine.

Those declaring all foods ritually clean. Well many people, many believers believe that all foods, because of these Bible verses, are now clean. Now before we we go into an argument or there’s an argument on a point and say yes this is how it is, we want to be going and look at to see what the Bible verse is saying.

And I’m going to say something that I might be very disappointing or even shocking for some believers out there. And it’s that the fact that this section that it says that all foods are clean, it’s not part of the original verse and it has been added to the Word of God. In Proverbs 36 it tells us not to add or subtract from God’s Word.

Also I believe in Deuteronomy, I think it’s in chapter 4 and Revelations 22 18, it tells us that there are curses that come when people add and subtract from the Word of God. And some Bibles are very loose in translating the scriptures. So this and that is added to the scriptures.

It’s not part of the original scriptures. So by that, by knowing that it’s not part of the original scriptures, we can deduct that it’s not part of what God is saying. God will not tell us something at this point in time and then come back later and contradict himself and say something different.

The Word tells us that God is not a man that he should die. We find that in Numbers 23 19. Yeshua also tells us in Matthew that he came to fulfill the Torah, not to abolish it.

So if this is the case, the list that he has given us, the guidance, the instructions that he has given us still stand today. What the Bible verse is really saying, when you read it in Hebrew, when we read it in the original way that it was intended, it’s saying that when the food goes through our system, it is purged out, meaning that it goes to our digestive system and the nutrients are absorbed, but the toxins and the waste is removed. It’s not saying anything about eating whatever we want to eat.

It’s really talking about the way that our body works, our digestive system works. It cleans out what it needs to remove out of our body. And this is what it’s really talking about.

Another section, what people like to say, is in 1 Corinthians 10 27, which Paul is talking and he says that if you go to the house of an unbeliever, you are to eat everything that that person, that unbeliever puts in front of you. The question here is, would Paul, a follower of Yeshua, a person that comes from a background in the rabbinical background, would tell followers or believers in Yeshua to ignore the word of God, to disobey the commandments of God? No, I don’t think that Paul will say or tell you to disobey the word of God because he himself was an obedient follower of Yeshua. This verse that he’s talking about is really not even talking about the type of food that would be served, but whether it was talking about the food being sacrificed to idols.

Take for example, you know some people and you know some people that are not believers, they’re unbelievers, and they know you and they know that you are a believer and they invite you to their home. They already know that you are a believer and that you don’t eat certain foods. They’re not going to invite you to their home and serve you something that they know that is not part of your faith or your belief.

So Paul is saying, when you go to a person’s house, don’t raise the question whether it was sacrificed to an idol or not. But he’s saying that if someone points it out, then for the sake of that person, you shouldn’t eat that food that was sacrificed to an idol. So this whole thing, this Bible verse, this whole thing is really talking about foods that have been sacrificed to idols.

You have to think that from the very beginning God wanted us to eat fruits and vegetables, but after the fall of man, during the time of Noah, God said to eat anything. But the time when Moshe came, he came along, he gave Moshe specific instructions of what to eat and what not to eat. The problem with society is that we eat too much of certain things and we eat too much of the wrong things.

So by the time we find out that we should not be eating certain things, there’s already something going on, a health consequence, some kind of health condition going on in our bodies. So now with this in mind and having in mind that if we say that we love Yeshua, then because we love him, we will obey what he says. Also keeping in mind that we cannot compare or put side by side the word of God with men’s research.

We cannot compare the word of God with the word of some doctor. We cannot compare the word of God with the word of some documentary. We cannot compare the word of God with our own thoughts of how we should be eating.

Not everyone has different health situations and the doctors are trying to help us maybe lower our blood pressure or lose weight or level our sugar. And we have to keep in mind that God is the ultimate person that gives you guidance. That gives us guidance.

So now when you read these instructions that are in Leviticus 11 and they’re also in Deuteronomy 14, when you read those things, then you’re going to see these instructions. Now after you read those things, there’s another Bible verse that I want to bring up and it’s in Acts 19, 10 to 16. Some believers say that Peter had a vision.

Some believers believe that Peter was talking about eating any kind of meat. Now we have to think about Peter and we have to think about Paul and the culture they come from and the family background that they come from. Okay.

God gave Peter this vision because this is the only way that Peter will understand what he was trying to say. As a matter of fact, this Bible verse or this section right here is not even talking about food. It’s not really concentration of it is not in food, but it’s talking about non-Jews coming into the salvation of Yeshua.

God gave Peter this vision because by telling him about unclean foods, which was repulsive to him, he can understand that this is the same way that he and other Jews were looking at non-Jews. They were looking at them repulsively and God is saying, you know, these people that are believers now, they are also part of my salvation. They have the ability to have salvation through Yeshua.

Another thing to keep in mind is that we have to think about the culture that we’re living in today and the culture that they were living in back then. When Paul was talking about meat in Romans 14, 1 to 3, he wasn’t talking about the clean foods. He was talking about clean foods, not non-clean foods.

For example, he wasn’t talking about pork. He was talking about clean foods. He was talking about trying, he wasn’t telling us to not eat according to Leviticus 11 and Deuteronomy 14.

He wasn’t telling us not to listen to God and listen to him, which is a man. So he’s talking to us about the clean foods. So based on our own bodies, our own health, our own situations, we have to take the guidance of God and the advice of God and the research that God has given to some peoples, to some men and some doctors and try to apply those things in our lives to determine what’s the better way to help promote our health in our own lives.

For example, I can eat corn, but when I eat things like corn chips, you know, or chips that have corn in it, corn chips, there’s the white corn chips and then there’s the yellow corn chips. When I eat the white corn chips, I’m fine. I don’t have any problems and I feel good.

I don’t feel like I have any irritations. But when I eat the yellow corn, it causes irritations in my stomach. It just, it doesn’t make me feel good.

So I know that about myself. So I don’t eat when I eat, if I’m going to eat some chips, I try to eat the chips that are white, white corn, made with white corn. So we have to follow God and be wise and have common sense in the decisions that we make about our own health.

God bless you. And I pray that in the name of Yeshua, God help us make wise decisions about the foods that we eat. And that when we go through the Bible verses that I mentioned here, that God gives you, gives even me, deeper revelation of what He’s trying to teach us.

We thank you, Lord, in the name of our Yeshua Mashiach, our salvation. Amen.
