Part 5 – Respect

Matthew 7:12 says, “So in everything, do to others what you would have them do to you, for this sums up the Law and the Prophets.”

Respect is honoring a person with high esteem and admiration. It is to be aware of their feelings, rights, and desires.

Yeshua the Messiah is the best example of respect:

Philippians 2:3-11 “Do nothing out of selfishness or conceit, but with humility consider others as more important than yourselves, 4 looking out not only for your own interests but also for the interests of others. 5 Have this attitude in yourselves, which also was in Messiah Yeshua, 6 Who, though existing in the form of God, did not consider being equal to God a thing to be grasped. 7 But He emptied Himself, taking on the form of a slave, becoming the likeness of men and being found in appearance as a man. 8 He humbled Himself, becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross. 9 For this reason, God highly exalted Him and gave Him the name that is above every name, 10 that at the name of Yeshua every knee should bow, in heaven and on the earth and under the earth, 11 and every tongue profess that Yeshua the Messiah is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.”

So, God exalted Yeshua, and Yeshua exalted us by His sacrifice.

When we treat others well, it brings inner and outer satisfaction, dignity, and valor.

Think about the Shunammite woman who honored and respected Elisha, though she did not know who he was at first. She and her husband made a room for him so that every time he passed by, he had a place to stay. The word tells us that she was a prominent woman, but that did not stop her from being respectful toward others.

When we respect one another, it creates mutual love and responsibility toward each other. It reflects an inner attitude toward the value and worth of others and God.

Romans 12:10 says, “Be tenderly devoted to one another in brotherly love; outdo one another in giving honor.
