People In History Who Thought They Were Right
Exodus 11:4-5 “4 Moshe said, “Here is what ADONAI says: About midnight I will go out into Egypt, 5 and all the firstborn in the land of Egypt will die, from the firstborn of Pharaoh sitting on his throne to the firstborn of the slave-girl at the hand mill, and all the firstborn of the livestock.” CJB
Proverbs 30:2-3 “I am more boorish than anyone, I lack human discernment; 3 I have not learned enough wisdom to know the Holy One.” CJB
Luke 6:49 “49 And whoever hears my words but doesn’t act on them is like someone who built his house on the ground without any foundation. As soon as the river struck it, it collapsed, and that house became a horrendous wreck!” CJB
John 13:13 “13 You call me ‘Rabbi’ and ‘Lord,’ and you are right because I am.” CJB
One of the parashah’s for Exodus is Bo “COME or GO” Exo. 10–13:11.
Exodus 11:1 “ADONAI said to Moshe, “I’m going to bring still one more plague on Pharaoh and Egypt, and after that, he will let you leave here. When he does let you go, he will throw you out completely!” CJB
Exodus continues to talk about the plagues and the fact that Pharaoh’s heart was in complete disobedience. He thought he was right. He thought that his logic or thought pattern was correct. In the end, like we all know all of the firstborn and his army died:
Exodus 12:30 “30 Pharaoh got up in the night, he, all his servants and all the Egyptians; and there was horrendous wailing in Egypt; for there wasn’t a single house without someone dead in it.” CJB
Pharaoh was greatly mistaken, and it cost the life of his son and the life of many who followed him. If he would have only repented; we would have a different story, but his pride kept him from humbleness. Yes, he thought he was right, but he was dead wrong.
Psalms 136:15 “but swept Pharaoh and his army into the Sea of Suf, for his grace continues forever;” CJB
The word for used in Hebrew for swept is Naar נָעַר which means overthrew, shake, lose.
Can you imagine Pharaoh dismay after he lost all his army and brought low? He had to return to his empty throne and to the public embarrassment of being defeated by God. God gave him a way out, but he chose disobedience.
If he only knew that God has given a prophecy to Abraham about this time in history:
Genesis 15:13-14 “13 Adonai said to Avram, “Know this for certain: your descendants will be foreigners in a land that is not theirs. They will be slaves and held in oppression there four hundred years. 14 But I will also judge that nation, the one that makes them slaves. Afterward, they will leave with many possessions.” CJB
Many times, in our lives we have our own logic about things. We think we are right about many events and even teachings from the scriptures but many times we are wrong because we don’t read, and we don’t listen to God. If we are not careful, we can end up just like Pharaoh.
Yeshua said:
Luke 6:46 “46 “Why do you call me, ‘Lord! Lord!’ but not do what I say?” CJB
We think our own thoughts and assume it is fine. We do what we want and assume it is fine. Yet we are against his very words.
Proverbs 14:12 “There can be a way which seems right to a person, but at its end are the ways of death.” CJB
Deuteronomy 12:8 “8 You will not do things the way we do them here today, where everyone does whatever in his own opinion seems right.” CJB
We know what God wants from us; we read them in His commandments; therefore, we should not be doing whatever we want but following his commands.
Another Example of disobedience: Note they attacked AI.
Take Akhan, the son of Zerah whom God instructed the whole community of Israel not to take anything from the battle; Akhan was bold to disobey and lost his life for stealing.
Joshua 7:19-21, 24-25 “19 Y’hoshua said to ‘Akhan, “My son, swear to Adonai, the God of Isra’el, that you will tell the truth and confess to him. Tell me, now, what did you do? Don’t hide anything from me.” 20 ‘Akhan answered Y’hoshua, “It is true: I have sinned against Adonai, the God of Isra’el. Here is exactly what I did: 21 when I saw there with the spoil a beautiful robe from Shin‘ar, five pounds of silver shekels and a one-and-a-quarter-pound wedge of gold, I really wanted them. So I took them. You will find them hidden in the ground inside my tent, with the silver underneath.” 24- 24 Y’hoshua, together with all Isra’el, took ‘Akhan, the son of Zerach, with the silver, the robe, the gold wedge, his sons, his daughters, his cattle, his donkeys, his sheep, his tent, and everything he had, and brought them up to the Akhor Valley. 25- 25 Y’hoshua said, “Why have you brought trouble on us? Today Adonai will bring trouble on you!” Then all Isra’el stoned him to death; they burned them to ashes and stoned them.” CJB
He was doing his own thinking and not listening to the Torah. He totally disregarded God’s word and it caused the lives of his entire family.
James 1:22 “22 Don’t deceive yourselves by only hearing what the Word says but do it!” CJB
Take for example the word Torah in Hebrew: תּוֹרָה
Which means instruction, direction, teaching. The first Hebrew letter
TAV = sign, covenant, seal, mark
Reich = head, bow, the end, also the beginning
Hey = reveal, pointing, praise, behold
At the end of the beginning, there is a mark of revelation that points to the covenant. This mark is Yeshua.
We have to be obedient to God’s teaching not our own. We can have our thought pattern, but why? Instead, we should follow God. We could praise our works, but why? Instead, we should follow God’s instructions. Akhan failed to do this and it caused him. It cost him his life and his family’s lives.
Let’s look at another example, listen to this story:
Judges 17:1-6 “There was a man from the hills of Efrayim named Mikhay’hu. 2 He said to his mother, “You know the 1,100 pieces of silver that were taken from you — you pronounced a curse about it, and you told me about it? Well, the money is with me. I took it.” His mother said, “May Adonai bless my son,” 3 as he restored the 1,100 pieces of silver to his mother. Then his mother said, “I solemnly dedicate this money of mine to Adonai, in order for my son to make a carved image overlaid with silver. So now I’m giving it back to you.” 4 But he returned the money to his mother, and she took 200 pieces of silver and gave them to the metalworker, who made a carved image overlaid with silver which was put in Mikhay’hu’s house. 5 This man Mikhah owned a house of God; so he made a ritual vest and household gods and consecrated one of his sons, who became his cohen. 6 At that time there was no king in Isra’el; a man simply did whatever he thought was right.” CJB
When we don’t listen to God, we are robbing ourselves. We are that thieved that Yeshua spoke about in:
John 10:10 “The thief comes only in order to steal, kill and destroy; I have come so that they may have life, life in its fullest measure.” CJB
How about people from the pages of history like Hitler, how about Isabella from Spain and the inquisition who change Shabbat to Sunday and persecuted anyone who would worship on Saturday.
How about Constantine who made it a law that Sunday was the day of worship.
How about the Roman popes who change Shabbat to Sunday worship? Dead wrong.
How about a Baptist Adventist, William Miller (1782-1849) who led his followers to believe that Yeshua was coming back in 1844. Was dead wrong.
How about many atheists who believe that there is no God?
How about Jimmy Jones who led many to drink cyanide Kool-aid killing many. He was wrong dead wrong.
Psalm 14 “Fools say in their hearts, “There is no God.” They deal corruptly, their deeds are vile, not one does what is right. 2 From heaven Adonai observes humankind to see if anyone has understanding if anyone seeks God. 3 But all turn aside, all alike are corrupt; no one does what is right, not a single one. 4 Don’t they ever learn, all those evildoers, who eat up my people as if eating bread and never call on Adonai? 5 There they are, utterly terrified; for God is with those who are righteous. 6 You may mock the plans of the poor, but their refuge is Adonai. 7 How I wish Isra’el’s salvation would come out of Tziyon! When Adonai restores his people’s fortunes, Ya‘akov will rejoice, Isra’el will be glad!” CJB
Are we not glad that Salvation did come out of Zion and we can go after Yeshua Him to restore our thoughts and minds and help us follow his commandments?
Titus 3:5 “Not by works of righteousness which we have done but by His grace, he saved us, by the washing of regeneration and renewing of our minds through the holy spirit”
Why take the chance of being wrong? Come to Yeshua today.
