Unleavened Bread
The Bread of Presence - Feast of Unleavened Bread
The Bread of Presence – Feast of Unleavened Bread
The Feast of unleavened bread is celebrated for seven days from Nisan 15 to Nisan 21. This year in the Gregorian calendar it is the evening of April 9th to the Evening of April 15th. So, what does this all mean?
Yeshua died on Nisan 14 around 3pm and then the Passover dinner was held in between the two evenings between Nisan 14 and Nisan 15. After they smeared the blood in the doors, At the start of the evening of Nisan 15, They were instructed to stay inside their houses all night:
Exodus 12:21-22 “21 Then Moshe called for all the leaders of Isra’el and said, “Select and take lambs for your families, and slaughter the Pesach lamb. 22 Take a bunch of hyssop leaves and dip it in the blood which is in the basin, and smear it on the two sides and top of the door-frame. Then, none of you is to go out the door of his house until morning.” CJB
This happen in the evening of Nisan 15:
We are going to look at this calendar, this is the closest I could find as an example in google without having to make my own calendar during the year Yeshua died.
Calendar
On the 14th Yeshua dies, in between the 14th and 15th where you see the line is the Pesach dinner and Yeshua was taken to the tomb before the beginning of the 15th because it was a high Shabbat which is unleavened bread. They were instructed to stayed at their house until morning of the 15th day when they left Egypt.
Exodus 12:23 “23 For Adonai will pass through to kill the Egyptians; but when he sees the blood on the top and on the two sides, Adonai will pass over the door and will not allow the Slaughterer to enter your houses and kill you.” CJB
Exodus 12:30 “29 At midnight Adonai killed all the firstborn in the land of Egypt, from the firstborn of Pharaoh sitting on his throne to the firstborn of the prisoner in the dungeon, and all the firstborn of livestock. 30 Pharaoh got up in the night, he, all his servants and all the Egyptians; and there was horrendous wailing in Egypt; for there wasn’t a single house without someone dead in it.” CJB
Exodus 12:50 “50 All the people of Isra’el did just as Adonai had ordered Moshe and Aharon. 51 On that very day, Adonai brought the people of Isra’el out of the land of Egypt by their divisions.” CJB
They left in the morning of the 15th of Aviv.
Numbers 33:3-5 “3 They began their journey from Ram’ses in the first month. On the fifteenth day of the first month, the morning after the Pesach, the people of Isra’el left proudly in view of all the Egyptians; 4 while the Egyptians were burying those among them whom Adonai had killed, all their firstborn; Adonai had also executed judgment on their gods.” CJB
This is why the first day of unleavened bread Nisan 15 is a day off. God executed judgement on Pharaoh, the Egyptians and their so-called gods.
When judgement comes into our lives and the blood of Yeshua Messiah is not applied into our lives, death will come just as death came to the many Egyptians and many other people that decided in their heart that the blood meant nothing in their lives, that the blood was not important in their schedules, in their agendas or it was not a priority in their lives.
Having the Pesach dinner in between the evenings of Aviv 14 and 15 was important to God:
Exodus 12:42 “42 This was a night when Adonai kept vigil to bring them out of the land of Egypt, and this same night continues to be a night when Adonai keeps vigil for all the people of Isra’el through all their generations.” CJB
God separated this time as pure and holy. A time of cleansing and rejuvenation. A time of deliverance, an upgrade from slave to friend, from slave to freedom, from being a slave of death to a servant of Life. We read that they left proudly in view of all the Egyptians. It was not a secret just like Yeshua is not a secret. He was the lamb sacrifice then and He is the lamb sacrifice today. It is not called unleavened bread because they did not have time for their dough to rise but because there is only one that is pure and without sin. There is only one redeemer, one savior, one who shed blood for us. So, let’s recap:
Aviv 15 = Liberation from bondage. Yeshua is our blood sacrifice so on the 15th of Aviv we remember that He delivered us from the power of death which is sin. Exodus 13:3-5. This is why it is a memorial, a day off.
1 Peter 1:18-21 “18 You should be aware that the ransom paid to free you from the worthless way of life which your fathers passed on to you did not consist of anything perishable like silver or gold; 19 on the contrary, it was the costly bloody sacrificial death of the Messiah, as of a lamb without defect or spot. 20 God knew him before the founding of the universe but revealed him in the acharit-hayamim for your sakes. 21 Through him you trust in God, who raised him from the dead and gave him glory; so that your trust and hope are in God.” CJB
Aviv 14 at 3 pm: 3 days and 3 night. Many people have all kinds of crazy definitions of what a day constituted back then but Yeshua tell us very plainly the meaning of a day and this is why there is so much confusion:
John 11:9-10 “9 Yeshua answered, “Aren’t there twelve hours of daylight? If a person walks during daylight, he doesn’t stumble; because he sees the light of this world. 10 But if a person walks at night, he does stumble; because he has no light with him.” CJB. Matthew 12:38-40, the sign of Jonah.
So Yeshua was in the grave part of Aviv 14 Wednesday, Aviv 15 Thursday, Aviv 16 Friday, Aviv 17 Saturday until evening.
Aviv 18- Sunday = First Fruits when the women went to the tomb.
He resurrected and appeared to for about 40 days. Acts 1:3
Exodus 14:13 “13 Moshe answered the people, “Stop being so fearful! Remain steady, and you will see how Adonai is going to save you. He will do it today — today you have seen the Egyptians, but you will never see them again! 14 Adonai will do battle for you. Just calm yourselves down!” CJB
What are we to do?
1: Before Pesach remove leaven from your houses
Exodus 15:15 “…..on the first day remove the leaven from your houses….” CJB
2: Eat Matzah
Exodus 13:6-7 “6 For seven days you are to eat matzah, and the seventh day is to be a festival for Adonai. 7 Matzah is to be eaten throughout the seven days; neither hametz nor leavening agents are to be seen with you throughout your territory.” CJB
3: Take First and Last day off
Leviticus 23:7-8 “7 On the first day you are to have a holy convocation; don’t do any kind of ordinary work. 8 Bring an offering made by fire to Adonai for seven days. On the seventh day is a holy convocation; do not do any kind of ordinary work.” CJB
4: Purpose: As a Reminder
Exodus 13:9-10 “9 “Moreover, it will serve you as a sign on your hand and as a reminder between your eyes, so that Adonai’s Torah may be on your lips; because with a strong hand Adonai brought you out of Egypt. 10 Therefore you are to observe this regulation at its proper time, year after year.” CJB
5: Remember that Yeshua is the Unleavened bread
John 6:32-35 “32 Yeshua said to them, “Yes, indeed! I tell you it wasn’t Moshe who gave you the bread from heaven. But my Father is giving you the genuine bread from heaven; 33 for God’s bread is the one who comes down out of heaven and gives life to the world.”
When we think about the showbread that was to be present in the tabernacle every day 24 hours a day; we think about Yeshua being the bread of presence. He is the bread that is present at all time with His word and instructions. His word is always fresh, always changing us; always in our presence if we partake of Him. He is the bread of LIFE whoever comes to him will have eternal life. He told us to eat the bread in memory of Him; and during the Feast of unleavened bread, we are to remember Him. The bread of presence then is the word of God, Yeshua said: “Man does not live on bread alone but by every word that comes from the mouth of Adonai” Matthew 4:4
